Berklee City Music Program is a nonprofit, college-sponsored, educational program that harnesses the energy of contemporary music to reach underserved 4th to 12th graders all across the country. The effort is achieved through the Berklee City Music Network, which is comprised of 32 community-based, like-minded music programs located in more than 25 urban communities, including the flagship Berklee City Music program in Boston.
Berklee City Music Network City Music Network members provide students with on-site real-time instruction with specially trained Berklee PULSE teachers, supported with high quality online music learning resources, and an online community of teenage music students connected to Berklee and the City Music program. Berklee extends the City Music Summer Scholarship to Network members' top student musicians to their summer five-week performance program in Boston. The best of these City Music Summer Performance Program students will be eligible for full four-year scholarships to Berklee.
PULSE (Pre-University Learning System Experience) is a state-of-the-art online method of teaching that gives kids and teachers the benefit of a Berklee education no matter where they live. This proven, state-of-the-art method of teaching gives students access to caring, professionally trained instructors and invaluable online learning materials. Whether a student is interested in instrumental and vocal training, ensemble performance, or musicianship development through the music of today, The Pulse Method makes it happen. Pulse is even more than music. It’s an online community where students can network, and absorb positive influences. It paves the way for kids to become more accomplished, more confident, and more influential in their world.
Berklee is seeking to expand upon the success of its City Music program by partnering with community-based organizations to offer the Berklee PULSE method to talented under-served youth across the country. The goal is to extend the opportunity for quality contemporary music study to the young musical talents of tomorrow, providing them with a means to develop their skills and preparing them for lifelong musical achievement.
