Music has given me a way to be fully expressed in the world. It has given me a medium for communicating joy, anger, fun, sadness, confusion, and epiphany. Music has given me a way to connect with people all over the world -- whether I've been busking in the metros in Paris, trading songs with Berber trail guides in the Moroccan desert, or playing an unexpected Casio keyboard in northern Thailand...or, back at home, playing my original songs for club audiences. Music has given me a sense of beauty and a sense of dissonance -- and a sense of when dissonance can be beautiful. Music has provided me with a way to inspire and to be inspired. Music has been my companion when I was lonely, and my needed challenge when I was complacent. Music has nourished my soul, and has helped me to evolve and grow at many different times.
It's gratifying to do work that helps bring some of these impacts to others, and I am very happy to be part of the initiative to make sure this is available to ALL kids in this country.
