How has music impacted your life?
Since conducting from my high chair music has carried me on a journey around the world as performer, teacher and perpetual student.

I have been guided into situations I had always dreamed of as well as those that were beyond what I ever dream't possible.

Why Dictators Hate to See Us Moved by Music

In an article by the Wall Street Journal "Why Dictators Hate to See Us Moved by Music", Eric Felten writes a insightful opinion editorial which explains a trend throughout history and the present where dictators try to stamp out music in the pursuit of total control.

Felten goes on to explain a new study about the power of music or "the manipulative arts" which explains to the extent that… Continue

Music Education Tales

Too often the successes of philanthropic organizations are illustrated only in numbers of recipients and dollars spent. In an effort to truly illustrate the impact that music education is having on our children's lives, we must take a moment and listen to each individual's transformative story. Additionally, because individual success stories appeal to the heart more than numbers, it is possible that in harvesting these stories, serious funders will have a greater propensity to invest in our… Continue

”For all of our Jazz Affecionados”….from our amazing friend Herman Leonard.

Follow the link below to learn more about the great photographer Herman Leonard, whose images of jazz musicians at work deserve the overused term “iconic.”

At recording sessions, nightclub gigs, on stage, backstage, between cuts, or in the heat of the moment, Leonard captured the spirit, joy, and intensity of the music and its whole culture more evocatively and empathically than anyone else.

His classic work comes from the late 1940s and ‘50s, featuring the likes of… Continue

Hi, Chris, wondering what you think our teachers' group might want to discuss to get started. With 11 members, do we have critical mass? Hoping you will unravel a first common thread... thanks for considering, Jess

Chris, how is your writing going? You know I have written several guitar curricula and my colleague Aaron Stang who runs the guitar division of Alfred Publishing had to do one that was very extensive and standards driven. I am sure we'd both be willing to be sounding boards as you go if you wish! Best, Jess

Hi, Chris,
What is your vision for the teaching the teachers group? What a special topic. I am involved about 80 hours a week teaching teachers and it's just something that not all that many people talk much about. I'd love to learn from sharing others experiences and my own. Thanks for getting it started.

Hi Chris,
Sure I'd love to join the fellowship of other teachers. Later I'll check out your page to see if I can follow whatever thread I will need to get there. Until then, keep music alive in the hearts of all!

Hello Chris,
Thank you for the invitation.
Are there any scheduled events for 2010?
It's good to be with music makers with a purpose for creating the role of music and art for the essentials of our life experiences.
Looking forward to be of service!

Hi Chris! The National Guild had a blurb about this consortium in an e-mail I received. Great to see so many familiar faces on here as members.

Hey Chris - I learned about the Consortium via donorschoose.org + I absolutely loved the mission behind it - that QJ remembers how important it is that we ALL work to help save the music - for everyone!
Working with celebrity DJ Beverly Bond + partnering with SCRATCH DJ Academy to offer scholarships to young women of color interested in DJing has been far more rewarding than I could have ever imagined...I am very happy to be a part of this movement!
