"What a good report! Thank you, Larry. Somethng perhaps a few of us who have taught music in public school might wish to add...we are most able to teach to our fullest potential when we are blessed with a healthy school enviroment."

University of Southern California and Guitar Center Inc.
Music Director of Thornton School Orchestras, USC and Director of Educational Initiatives, Guitar Center
How has music impacted your life?
Other than my family, music has been my life. For a very long time my goal was to join together my players as servants of the music. Now my quest is to enjoin the music as magical conduit to the people.

Larry Livingston is a distinguished conductor, educator, and administrator, and a highly respected motivational speaker. As a conductor, he has appeared with the Houston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Green Umbrella Series, the Festival de Musique in France, the Stockholm Wind Orchestra, the Pan Pacific Festival Orchestras in Sydney, the National Orchestra of Rumania, the International Jazz Festival in Rome, and in Tokyo under the auspices of Yamaha International. Since 1989, Mr. Livingston has been the Music Director of the Idyllwild Summer Festival Youth Orchestra. He regularly conducts professional orchestras, youth orchestras and wind bands across the United States and Europe where reviews describe “long, unending applause, like at a rock concert.”

The first music administrator admitted to the Harvard University Executive Education Program, Mr. Livingston served as Vice President and Music Director of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, subsequently as Dean of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, and, from 1986 until 2002, as Dean of the USC Flora L. Thornton School of Music, where he is Music Director of Thornton School Orchestras. Over his administrative career, Mr. Livingston raised more than $100 million. Out of his passion for creative expression and his eclectic background, Mr. Livingston sponsored innovative collegiate programs in the music industry, through which he became closely associated with such prominent figures as Quincy Jones, John Williams, David Foster, Wayne Shorter, and Herb Alpert.

As a motivational speaker, he has established a national reputation for inspiring presentation, Conducting Your Company, Conducting Your Life, to corporate leaders across the United States. Formerly a member of the Board of Directors, he now serves as Director of Educational Initiatives for the Guitar Center. At the request of Mr. Jones, Mr. Livingston chairs the Education Committee of the Quincy Jones Musiq Summit.
